Dr Eunice Lumsden, Head of Early Years at the University of Northampton, calls for a new reality in Early Childhood, Education and Care

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality.

To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

Buckminster Fuller

Multiple voices, organisations and professions operate in the flexible space of Early Childhood, yet despite ongoing Government investment and research evidence that constantly reinforces the importance of this period in life across the life course, outcomes for our youngest citizens continue to be very concerning.  The pandemic has shone a further light on the invisibility of children and the complexities of intervening in Early Childhood.  We know that the pandemic will have intergenerational ripples and that future public health challenges will increase.  We can know this, hear, listen  and debate the same issues time and time again. Unless we all become activists and stop being bystanders, we will never change the script for future generations.
